Twilidyne wasn't always Twilidyne. In the spring of 2005 Derek Jevens decided he was ready to make his own band, but he lacked the major things in a band, a singer and a drummer. Derek decided to name his band "Derek Jevens" due to the lack of other band members. Derek could play the piano and keyboard based bass. Even with the lack of a vocalist and drummer Derek began to write lyrics and began to write music for them. Derek's first song written was a song called "Every Now and Then" and today Derek says "the song was good, but it was also bad. Musically the song was okay, but I don't think I've ever written a soppier song. Ever!" As Derek continued to write songs and experiment with sound his skills at the piano and keyboards got better and better. Soon Derek felt good enough at the piano to begin to record a few demos. Of the songs he recorded were Every Now and Then, The World is Ending, What If, and the early version of Lament.
Earlier in February of 2005 Derek saw for the first time a band called Keane perform on NBC's Saturday Night Live. Upon hearing the band Derek fell in love with the music. He began to practice and practice the two songs he heard by listing to the recording he made of the show by ear. The songs were Somewhere Only We Know and Everybody's Changing. Soon Derek bought the album along with sheet music. It was then that Derek taught himself how to read sheet music and play Keane.
Towards the end of the 2004-2005 school year when Derek was a junior in high school, he decided to ask his friend Deni if she would be willing to sing Somewhere Only We Know at the high school variety show for the next school year. Derek knew that she could sing, but didn't know she could play the piano as well. For the remainder of the school year Deni and Derek would meet in the band room during homeroom and practice taking turns at playing music on the piano.
By the time the next school year came around Derek had advanced much more in his piano playing abilities. He had also mastered Somewhere Only We Know and Everybody's Changing and was ready for the variety show. During the same year Derek faced family issues and moved out of his home six months before turning 18 and moved in with his friend. During that time Deni came over and practiced both songs as the plan was to now perform both, but because of scheduling reasons Deni and Derek were cut back and could only do Somewhere Only We Know. They went on and were one of the most popular pieces at the show two shows. Some have even said to Derek and Deni that they were the best musical entertainment at the show both nights. After that Derek asked Deni to join his band and she accepted. Since then Derek and Deni have been working together with writing music and practicing cover songs.
After Deni joined the band, the bands name changed to Atlantic as a temporary name until they both decided that Twilidyne would be the name.
Since the band had grown to a two piece Derek thought it was time to upgrade and he purchased a music studio program for recording and mixing music. As a part of the upgrade Derek also got himself a new laptop computer and adopted his own piano.
Since the band has been together they have recorded four cover songs. They've recorded the songs "The Iron Sea", "Everybody's Changing", "We Might As Well Be Strangers", and "Is It Any Wonder". All songs by Keane. They are also working on their own songs too.
"The computer also has a virtual drum kit on it so I can create my own rhythm patterns and my own drum line and it all sounds real, cause it is real, its actual recorded sounds from a drum kit and when put together its just like the real thing. So basically my computer is our drummer so I dubbed my computer "Richard PC" after Richard Hughes from Keane." - Derek Jevens
As of August 2006 Deni decided to stay part of the band but not continue on as a career choice. However Derek has decided that he wants to go into the music industry.
With the addition of Andrew Brame on drums, the band is looking for a bass player, and a second vocalist.
